A foster child may have a lower chance in succeeding in life. More trouble in their life and more trouble with schoolwork.
This was to begin with an assertion of mine, but now I realize it is true. After looking at many different statistics I found out that a large percent of foster children end up becoming homeless because of being 'forced out' or another common term: 'pushed out' by their foster care system. This is in fact because they age out of their foster care system most commonly when they turn 19.
And now, I'm wondering why are so many people who were foster care children homeless!
Well the following is basically an opinion of mine and I'm not saying it has to be true but I think that growing up a foster care child doesn't have the same opportunities as other children, and are NOT given employment skills... Etc. I guess this is because they grow up in a home not as loving or secure as other children. And don't get me wrong, this is not true for some foster homes: some foster homes are very loving and the foster parents are amazing.
But others are not so.
And when an average foster child grows up, they do not have the connections as another child may, and when they turn nineteen, they find themselves in a mess with no where and nobody to turn to.
My proposal is MORE programs to help homeless youth get back on their feet, and other at-risk youth to be PREVENTED from becoming homeless.
More programs will give at-risk children (including foster children) and homeless youth a BETTER and BRIGHTER future to look foward to! And the same opportunities as children who are born into a well off loving family.
